Fishing in Lake Saanajärvi, at a hiking distance of c. 5 km. You can catch arctic char or brown trout in the lake. A permit from Metla is needed for this lake, EUR 6 / a day. In the evening a hike to Salmivaara, 1.5 km away. A good place for photographing.
2. Fishing trip to Lake Ailakkajärvi; there a good fisherman can with some luck catch grayling, whitefish, brown trout and arctic char. A 10-kilometer hike along the path takes you to the lake. At the destination there is a shelter cabin where the visitor can even spend the night.
3. Visit to the sea shore in Skibotn – here you do not need a fishing license. Cod, coalfish, and catfish, among others, can be caught from the sea. Skibotn is at a distance of c. 55 km. In the evening you can enjoy delicious home-made food in Tuula’s coffee room.
4. Fishing in the rapids of Könkämäeno, by the side of the road when you drive downstream. Grayling, brown trout and even salmon during its fishing season can be caught in the rapids. (Peera-, Saari-, Lammas-, Pättikkäkoski Rapids). The night you can stay in Kuttanen in the cottages of Luongasloma, located right on the bank of River Muonionjoki.
5. Fishing in River Muonionjoki, right by the cottages, as there are rapids on both sides. An excellent spot for catching salmon, however, for fishing either salmon or brown trout you need a salmon fishing license granted by the Boundary River Commission. On the other side of the Swedish border there runs River Luongasjoki, for which the licenses must be obtained from Sweden.
6. You can make a combined fishing and canoe trip by driving by car the 10 kilometers to the village of Kultima. From there down River Tarvantojoki by canoe, fishing, for instance, in Kurkkio Rapids. By the village of Kuttanen the river joins River Muonionjoki, and then the cottages are only c. 7 km away. In Kuttanen the visitors can also ride Finnish horses. And then for the night to the cottages of Luongasloma.
